Saint Phillips Island Safari 11-10-2019
St. Phillips Island South Carolina is a National Natural Landmark
Approximately four miles in length and two miles wide, St. Phillips Island is unique among the barrier islands of Georgia, South Carolina and northern Florida, because it exists in a nearly undisturbed state. St. Phillips Island was owned by Ted Turner and his family. During that time, trails were thoughtfully carved through the maritime forest. With ancient dunes and a mature forest dominated by Spanish moss-draped live oaks, Southern magnolia and saw palmetto, St. Phillips Island is a nature lover’s paradise. Hunting Island State Park acquired St. Phillips Island and our trip was part of an Island Safari organized by the wonderful folks of Coastal Expeditions.
